At this moment, we have approximately five hours until the initial midnight launch celebrations for the Switch 2 in the United States. In the meantime, eBay hosts over 100 listings for the unreleased Switch 2 console.
Nintendo aims to distribute 20 million Switch 2 units within the next year, yet securing preorders has proven challenging for numerous gamers. This shortage makes the eBay listings quite appealing.
The majority of eBay listings for the console fall within the $650 to $750 range, even though the sellers do not yet possess the console. While it has been launched in countries like Australia, the initial U.S. units will not be available until 12:01 a.m. on June 5. For those awaiting delivery, it may take days or even weeks.
Some sellers on eBay are located in Australia and may have the console, but sellers based in the U.S. claim they will only sell after their “confirmed preorder” is received. Some display purported screenshots from Walmart and Target’s preorder confirmation pages or shipping tracking information. As Mashable’s Tech Editor, I recommend purchasing directly from retailers.
Nintendo is collaborating with platforms such as Mercari and Rakuten in Japan to prohibit Switch 2 listings post-launch, but this does not extend to the U.S.
Be cautious regarding these listings for the time being. The only confirmed delivered units are for review purposes, including the one Mashable received today.
Although you can take a chance on eBay, we suggest exercising patience. Ideally, once the console officially launches, retailers will have more stock available. We do not wish to promote hoarding or price gouging.
We have inquired with eBay regarding whether early Switch 2 listings breach their policies and will provide updates upon receiving a response. In the meantime, continue monitoring Nintendo and official retailers for availability:
