5 Essential Takeaways from the KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along Experience

KPop Demon Hunters is rising to prominence.

This Netflix release focuses on a group of K-pop idols known as HUNTR/X who not only produce infectious music but also battle lethal demons, including the appealing boy band Saja Boys.

The combination of exhilarating action, romance, team spirit, and an excellent soundtrack has fueled the film’s immense popularity on the streaming service. Since its premiere in June, KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix’s most-viewed animated film to date and is presently the second most-watched Netflix film in history. (Watch your back, Red Notice; HUNTR/X is closing in!)

The soundtrack for KPop Demon Hunters made its debut at number eight on the Billboard 200 chart. Currently, “Golden,” a HUNTR/X song featured in the film, ranks number two on the Hot 100 Chart, while Saja Boys’ “Your Idol” stands at number four and “Soda Pop” occupies the tenth spot.

There’s no evading KPop Demon Hunters, and this weekend is ideal to participate as the movie that has captivated Netflix audiences heads to theaters for exclusive sing-along showings.

To grasp what this experience entails for KPop Demon Hunters enthusiasts, I attended a press preview of the sing-along screening in New York City, at the Netflix-owned Paris Theater. Here are my five insights:

1. KPop Demon Hunters sing-along screening is as near as you’ll get to a HUNTR/X concert.

Watching this film at home is enjoyable, but in a theater with state-of-the-art surround sound, the soundtrack transforms. The opening battle scene, where Rumi, Mira, and Zoey perform “How It’s Done” while fighting demons and diving from a demolished plane into their arena below? It’s monumental on the big screen.

It resembles being at an actual concert. The music is spectacular and enveloping. The crowd around you is enthusiastic, dancing in their seats (or out of them) and singing along fervently. In this way, KPop Demon Hunters merges the communal atmosphere of concerts and movie viewings for the price of one admission.

2. Audience members will likely have their phones out unless you attend the Alamo.

Yes, individuals enjoy utilizing their phones in theaters. However, this behavior is more common when the audience is able to participate as well.
