Xbox Partners with AMD for New Console, Portable Devices, and VR Headset

This week, Xbox announced a novel strategic collaboration with AMD to deliver “state-of-the-art graphics” for “upcoming Xbox consoles.”

Xbox President Sarah Bond disclosed this in a video shared on X, which was filled with enthusiasm but lacked specifics. Nevertheless, we gathered a few insights. It is verified that a new Xbox console is on the horizon. Bond mentioned that the console will incorporate AMD technology and will allow backward compatibility with current game libraries. The video also indicated that the next-gen Xbox console won’t be “restricted to a single store or bound to one device,” making it sound more akin to a gaming PC than a conventional console.

This aligns with Microsoft’s wide-ranging strategy for Xbox and gaming, with the company adopting cloud gaming, a partnership with ASUS, and possibly even third-party devices.

The upcoming Xbox console, which will follow the Xbox Series X/S, is speculated to launch in 2027. And that’s not the only new gadget Microsoft is working on for the extended Xbox lineup.

So, aside from a new Xbox console, what additional Xbox hardware is forthcoming?

Microsoft has revealed plans for the 2025 launch of the ROG Xbox Ally X and the ROG Xbox Ally. Regarding release timing, the Microsoft website currently mentions “Holiday 2025” and “Email When Available,” but some leaks imply that preorders might commence as soon as August. Concerning costs, Microsoft has remained tight-lipped, likely due to uncertainties related to tariffs.

The new handheld gaming devices emerge from a partnership with Asus, which manufactures the ROG Ally.

Players will have the opportunity to enjoy PC games along with their Xbox favorites on the new handhelds. The Xbox Ally X is expected to feature 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, while the Xbox Ally is set to have 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
