We’ve simplified the search by showcasing the most amusing selections below.

Here are the wittiest films currently available on Netflix.

29. Paddington in Peru

We could all benefit from a bit of Paddington in our lives, so why not sit back and enjoy Paddington in Peru? Though it might not soar to the heights of Paddington 2, director Dougal Wilson still provides a delightful journey in his directorial debut.

This time, Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) returns to his native land of the deepest, darkest Peru, accompanied by the Brown family. In his search for his lost Aunt Lucy, he comes across a spirited, guitar-strumming nun (Olivia Colman) and a whimsical, disguise-loving boat captain (Antonio Banderas). Colman and Banderas enhance Paddington’s adventure from amusing to utterly ridiculous, demonstrating that few experiences are more enjoyable than witnessing seasoned actors embrace their quirks. 28. Saturday Night

Sadly neglected upon its release in the autumn of 2024, this wildly amusing adventure from Juno and Young Adult director Jason Reitman chronicles the 90-minute buildup to the inaugural episode of Saturday Night Live in October 1975. The ensemble cast is impressive, featuring Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman, Matt Wood as John Belushi, Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris, and Kim Matula as Jane Curtin.

Incorporating Gabriel Labelle as Lorne Michaels, the mastermind behind the wild and crazy scheme, the fact that this film manages to run only 90 minutes with all these characters (plus many more I don’t have space to mention) is a miraculous achievement. Many characters do get short-changed on screen time — particularly the women, reflecting the show’s historical shortcomings regarding female representation — but Saturday Night certainly encapsulates the frenzy and funny chaos that Michaels successfully transformed into a comedy phenomenon.
