Consuming news is no longer merely about picking up a newspaper or switching on the television. Nowadays, social media stands as America’s primary news outlet. But how can you sift through myriad infographics to pinpoint reliable sources?

**What opportunities has content creation afforded you as a journalist?**
I always believed that a career in the industry would provide solace and accomplishment. While serving as the director of impact for the James Beard Foundation, I felt I had achieved that, yet I lacked comfort. Embarking on content creation without expectations led me to discover a rewarding lifestyle and financial stability that conventional routes fell short of.
**Content creation appears to be empowering.**
Being a content creator and managing Spehar Entertainment presents challenges but grants me greater autonomy over my schedule. I enjoy collaborating with others, yet not within a corporate environment.
**You are a significant news source for younger audiences. How does this influence your content creation?**
Entering this space at an older age with established businesses, I recognized the necessity to pledge a product to my audience: to present news and events kindly from a secure space, prioritizing emotional safety. This promise directs all my creations.
**Did the under-the-desk format provide a distinctive perspective for your content?**
It visually manifested the promise. As trust developed, I stepped away from the desk, but the essence and commitment continue. Occasionally, I revert to the desk for somber news. Initially, public appearances made people uneasy, but now we venture into the world beyond the desk.
**How do you prevent burnout during intense news cycles?**
I depend on others who excel in news creation. I avoid reporting breaking news since professionals like Aaron Parnas handle it frequently. I concentrate on different stories, aware of the audience overlap. Prior to Trump, reporting on challenging events was more straightforward. Now, I emphasize fact-checking and reassuring the audience about accuracy. The Trump administration often cultivates chaos, so I strive to alleviate anxiety with factual information.
**Do you experience pressure when calming audience anxiety?**
Navigating the balance between journalism and creation is complex. I acknowledge inaccuracies and anticipate future developments, intertwining truth with historical context. This methodology aids in addressing gaps left by partial facts.
**How did you build your following?**
I began as a culinary creator, making cheeseburgers during the pandemic. Initially recognized for food content, I shifted to news. I prioritize returning viewers, akin to regulars at a restaurant, over follower numbers.
**When did you make the decision to pursue news full-time?**
After my layoff from the James Beard Foundation, I realized my dream career would not reemerge. Consulting on food delivery for veterans during the pandemic, I was invited to be a featured creator at VidCon, leading to the realization that content creation was a legitimate profession. Daniel from Palette Management approached me there, emphasizing the need for management.
**What tools do you utilize for content creation?**
I utilize Røde Microphones, not due to partnership, but for their quality. After experimenting with various lights and microphones, I determined that Røde’s sound quality was exceptional, feeling it was necessary to provide my audience with that experience.
