As the Tech Editor at Mashable, my apartment is overflowing with charging cables, power blocks, and USB-C chargers. However, few of them are ones I genuinely like to use. While most chargers are merely necessary burdens, there is one product that has claimed a permanent place in my bedside AC socket.
The Charger, from the relatively unknown brand Counterpart, solves the primary problem with most USB-C wall chargers — it features a retractable cable that neatly coils inside the device when it’s not being used. This eliminates any frustrating cable mess on your desk, countertops, or in your bedroom. It’s one of those smart product innovations that makes you think, “Why aren’t all chargers designed this way?”
You need to have a lot of confidence in your charger to call it The Charger. And I believe it truly warrants that name. In addition to its innovative design, this puck-shaped charger is also aesthetically pleasing, which I cannot say for any other charging product in my collection. (And trust me, there are quite a few).
This 35W USB-C charger comes with a retractable four-foot ribbon cable. When not in use, just press a button on the front of the device, and the cable retracts like a measuring tape. As demonstrated in my video review, it provides immense satisfaction. As a GaN charger, it offers more efficient charging than typical devices. Although some retractable cable chargers exist for cars, this is among the few available for home use.
Yes, the $44 price might give you pause, but it’s a worthwhile investment for a product that’s stylish, practical, and has a two-year warranty. These chargers also make excellent gifts, particularly if you’re searching for stocking stuffers or ideas under $50.
The Charger is offered in five different color choices and can be found at the Counterpart online store.
