Flo, an app focused on women’s health, is preparing to roll out features for perimenopause to its 76 million monthly active users. Previously recognized for its emphasis on reproductive health, Flo functioned as a tracker for periods and ovulation as well as a pregnancy app. Now, it is broadening its scope to help users monitor perimenopause symptoms, the phase between menstruation and menopause. The new offering, “Flo for Perimenopause,” will provide individualized support for those experiencing or interested in this transitional period.
In a 2024 survey conducted by Flo with 1,446 U.S. women aged 34-49, 54% reported feeling uninformed about perimenopause and its implications. Another study involving 337 U.S. women aged 35-54 who are going through perimenopause indicated that 72% felt their symptoms influenced their life experiences, impacting self-esteem, sexual relationships, and social interactions.
Flo for Perimenopause will allow users to monitor symptoms such as irregular cycles, hot flashes, mood fluctuations, fatigue, and sleep issues, akin to its period tracking capabilities. Users will also be able to receive a “Perimenopause Score” to assess how symptoms are affecting them.
Flo users will have access to guidance from medical professionals and OBGYNs and can engage with others via an anonymous feature called Secret Chats. The app will additionally offer educational resources created with input from over 100 medical experts.
Dr. Sameena Rahman, a board-certified OBGYN and menopause expert, mentioned in Flo’s press release that Flo for Perimenopause could be life-changing for women who are frequently confused and uncertain about what to anticipate during this period.
Flo for Perimenopause will be accessible to all users starting July 21.
