Almost every technology firm has rolled out vertical videos, following TikTok, the evident frontrunner in this domain.
Twitch is the most recent to participate. The Amazon-owned live streaming platform unveiled vertical video at TwitchCon earlier this year, and it is now officially experimenting with this format, as reported by market analysis provider AppSensa. The company discovered that Twitch is trialing vertical videos, with multiple mentions in the app’s coding. Twitch is said to be assessing the feature with a select group of streamers at this time.
If users come across the feature, they will encounter prompts indicating “vertical video is here” and will be informed that it’s still undergoing testing. Users have the option to watch streams in vertical format or the traditional mode.
In a statement following TwitchCon, Twitch remarked that the new format will “enhance the viewing experience for a device and the manner in which a viewer is utilizing that device.” The service highlighted that mobile viewers can view live streams vertically if they hold their devices that way.
“We are truly committed to getting this right, so we’ll be testing dual-format streaming and the new vertical theater with a limited number of channels this summer before gradually rolling out to more users later this year,” the company declared.
With Twitch lagging behind platforms such as TikTok and YouTube, this action illustrates its attempts to compete with other live streaming services.
