X is tweaking Community Notes once again.
On Thursday, the @CommunityNotes account provided additional details on a June X post to unveil a new pilot test permitting users to choose posts liked by individuals who usually hold contrary views. Picture a post appreciated by both Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani, or one favored by a cat lover and a dog lover.
“People frequently perceive the world as divided, yet Community Notes illustrates that agreement is possible, even regarding divisive subjects. This innovative feature aims to reveal concepts, insights, and opinions that unite differing viewpoints. It can highlight what resonates widely. It might encourage individuals to present those ideas initially. Ultimately, it could assist in advancing the world in ways desired by the populace,” the @CommunityNotes account stated in June.

As of July 25, chosen contributors can also evaluate posts by responding to questions about their reasons for liking or disliking the post.
“Beginning today, your evaluations will visibly impact others in the pilot,” the @CommunityNotes account announced on X on Thursday. “Posts that obtain sufficiently favorable ratings — determined by an early, in-progress open-source algorithm — will display a new notification informing you that the post appears to be appreciated by individuals from varying perspectives.”
If users with differing opinions both concur that the fact-check is correct, then the note is made public.
“As previously mentioned, only participants in the pilot will observe these notifications,” the announcement continued, noting that X plans to gradually broaden it “as we enhance the open-source algorithm powering it.”
“At this moment, it’s quite rudimentary, akin to the initial Community Notes pilot test algorithms,” the @CommunityNotes account shared on X. The message directed readers to the GitHub account showcasing the code, allowing users to offer critiques, ideas, and recommendations.
