Zuck Reveals Meta’s Aspirations for AI Personal Superintelligence in Latest Manifesto

After pouring billions into attracting elite AI professionals from competing firms, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has shared his strategy to “provide personal superintelligence to all.”

On Wednesday morning, Zuckerberg published the manifesto following a recruitment campaign that drew AI experts from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google to become part of Meta’s new superintelligence division, Meta Superintelligence Labs. Additionally, Meta lured Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang through a $14.3 billion investment in the data annotation firm. The objective is to create advanced AI models to rival those of competitors, who have repeatedly surpassed Meta in significant metrics. To facilitate this, Zuckerberg reportedly envisions the new AI group operating like a startup within Meta, insulating it from the broader company’s “bureaucracy,” as reported by The Financial Times.

The CEO of Meta refrained from discussing the details of his superintelligence aspirations but emphasized a cutting-edge type of AI that is remarkably customized and empowering. “While the wealth generated by AI in the future could be significant, a far more impactful change in our lives might arise from everyone having a personal superintelligence that assists in realizing your ambitions, crafting what you wish to manifest in the world, enjoying any adventure, being a better ally to those you cherish, and evolving into the person you aim to become,” Zuckerberg stated.

He also subtly took jabs at Meta’s rivals by claiming that “others in the industry… think superintelligence should be centrally managed to automate all essential work, leaving humanity to subsist on its results.” This could hint at Meta’s open-source ideology in AI development, contrasting with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic, who closely guard their proprietary models. “At Meta, we maintain that individuals chasing their personal goals is the pathway through which we have historically advanced prosperity, science, health, and culture.”

Zuckerberg’s announcement aligns with Meta’s Q2 earnings call scheduled for later today. We will soon find out if Wall Street prefers this to his Metaverse vision. The complete post can be accessed on the Meta website.
