Initially launched in 2020, the Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-cancelling headphones have been followed by the WH-1000XM5 and more recently the WH-1000XM6 models. Nevertheless, the advancements in each subsequent version have been fairly minimal. If having the latest model doesn’t matter much to you, you can enjoy substantial savings.

As of Aug. 8, the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones are available for $198 on Amazon, a 43% reduction or $151.99 less, and just slightly higher than their lowest historical price. This amount is around $130 cheaper than the XM5s and $230 below the XM6s.

PCMag, which is part of Mashable’s parent company Ziff Davis, recognized the XM4s with the Best of the Year accolade and an Editor’s Choice award in 2020. They continue to be an excellent option in 2025, featuring outstanding noise cancellation, remarkable sound quality, customizable EQ, a comfortable design, and foldable ear cups perfect for traveling.

Although the XM5 and XM6 models boast upgrades in sound and noise isolation, the real question is whether those enhancements are worth spending several hundred dollars more. That decision is yours to make. We find the 43% discount on the Sony WH-1000XM4 to be highly attractive.
