On Tuesday, Taylor Swift disclosed her 12th studio album during a segment from an upcoming episode of Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. Titled The Life of a Showgirl, the album showcases a cover art that is blurred. The entire episode will be available late Wednesday, marking Swift’s first significant interview in nearly two years.
As an aficionado of pop music, the clip suggested a new, orange-themed chapter filled with stories and hidden messages. For those who might not know, Taylor assigns different colors to symbolize each album, and this one carries a tangerine shade. As a reporter focusing on tech gadgets, I was intrigued by the wired headphones Taylor donned during her New Heights appearance. A reverse Google Images search confirmed them as the $109.99 Sony MDR-7506s, as validated by a Sony representative.
It’s plausible that these headphones were supplied by the podcast or studio, rather than being personally owned by Taylor. They are distinct from those worn by Travis and his brother/co-host Jason in the clip. The MDR-7506s feature a foldable, closed-ear design with 40mm drivers. Mashable’s headphone specialist Bethany Allard, who also has her own podcast, hasn’t used them but mentions they’re well-regarded in the audio industry. “They provide excellent sound quality for editing, are comfortable for extended use, and are reasonably priced,” Allard remarked. They appear in a 2024 gear guide from Transom, an audio storytelling nonprofit, and have been noted by a former NPR Tiny Desk engineer.
The full New Heights episode featuring Taylor will be accessible at 7 p.m. ET on Aug. 13. While The Life of a Showgirl lacks an official release date, CBS reports a pre-order shipping date set for Oct. 13.
