What is Connections?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge has become a sensation on social media. The Times attributes the creation of this new word puzzle and its introduction to the Games section to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu. Connections is accessible on both web browsers and mobile devices, tasking players with organizing four words that have a commonality.

Each challenge comprises 16 words, with sets of words segmented into four distinct categories. These collections may include anything from book titles, software programs, country names, etc. Although several words may appear to cohere, only one solution is correct.

When a player accurately identifies all four words in a set, those words are eliminated from the game board. If an error is made, it registers as a mistake—players can make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players also have the option to rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate the identification of connections. Moreover, each group is differentiated by color, with yellow indicating the easiest level, followed by green, blue, and purple. Much like Wordle, players can share their outcomes with friends on social media platforms.
