At the Made by Google 2025 event, Google formally unveiled the Pixel Watch 4. Thanks to a continuous flow of Pixel leaks, we had a solid expectation of what was coming. Mashable also previewed the new smartwatch at a recent gathering, and we can now present an in-depth initial look at the new wearable.
We also have some positive news to share: The Pixel Watch 4 will not see a price hike. The 41mm model is priced at $349.99, while the 45mm variant starts at $399.99. They are available for pre-order now at the Pixel Store and Amazon.
Google’s stylish smartwatch collection is back, and this year’s version introduces a range of enhancements aimed at smoothing out some of the imperfections of last year’s Pixel Watch 3. The Watch 4 promises extended battery life, significantly quicker charging, enhanced health and fitness functionalities, along with a fresh array of striking color options to complement its sleek design. It stands as a strong alternative to the newly launched Galaxy Watch 8, which features a divisive “squircle” design.
On paper, the Pixel Watch 4 appears to be a clear improvement over the Watch 3 — yet it isn’t a complete overhaul. A lot of the functionalities remain unchanged, meaning last year’s model is still quite capable if you’re not eager to upgrade. Nevertheless, if you’re weighing whether the Watch 4 is worth the upgrade, here’s a summary of what has shifted, and what remains the same, with Google’s newest flagship smartwatch and fitness tracker.
New: Larger display, extended life, quicker charging
The Pixel Watch 4 also boasts an upgrade in display technology. Google claims the new screen is around 10 percent bigger than the Watch 3, featuring a nearly edge-to-edge design that makes the refreshed Wear OS 6 and Material 3 Expression UI appear and feel more dynamic and vibrant. Additionally, brightness has been significantly enhanced, reaching an impressive 3,000 nits compared to the Pixel Watch 3’s 2,000. This results in improved visibility outdoors and sharper contrast when checking notifications on the go.
Battery life has also been optimized. For the 45mm variant, the Pixel Watch 4 promises up to 40 hours of usage, while the smaller 41mm model offers around 30 hours. Activate Battery Saver mode, and you’re looking at 72 hours on the 45mm and 48 hours on the 41mm. Charging is also faster: Google asserts that the Watch 4 can charge from 0 to 50 percent in just 15 minutes, a notable improvement over the Watch 3, which needed 24 minutes to achieve the same result.
Lastly, if you’re a fan of the Google Gemini AI chatbot, a Google press release mentions that the Pixel Watch 4 is “our best watch for experiencing Gemini.” Naturally, Google would make that claim.
Not new: Health and fitness functionalities
Regarding health and fitness, the Pixel Watch 4 adheres to the same framework as its predecessor. It continues to offer deep Fitbit integration to track heart rate, sleep, SpO2, stress, and workouts, alongside Google’s AI-driven Running Insights for performance feedback. ECG readings, irregular heart rhythm alerts, fall detection, and emergency SOS features are also retained.
This year, the Pixel Watch 4 has not introduced any groundbreaking new health sensors or fitness functionalities — it primarily refines the same Fitbit-driven ecosystem launched with Pixel Watch 3. However, Google has enhanced GPS tracking for more accurate route mapping and distance calculations, particularly beneficial for runners, cyclists, and hikers.
New: Colors
The Pixel Watch 4 is receiving a new design aesthetic. Google is maintaining the same two case sizes (41mm and 45mm), and both are now available in four finishes: Matte Black, Polished Silver, Champagne Gold, and the brand-new Rose Quartz.
Band options have also increased, though you’ll still find classics such as metal links, woven, leather, and stretch bands. Google is introducing new colors across the board to better coordinate with the refreshed cases. While it’s not a drastic redesign, the new color schemes offer buyers greater freedom to mix and match, appealing to either athletic or luxury appearances.
Pixel Watch 4: Release date, pricing, and pre-order
The Pixel Watch 4 is currently available for pre-order, but a Google representative informed us that the new smartwatch will not ship and hit retail shelves until Oct. 9. You can pre-order the watch at Amazon, the Pixel Store, and other vendors.
