Following her work on *The Marvels*, Nia DaCosta collaborates once more with Tessa Thompson, her star from *Little Woods*, in *Hedda*. This reunion is set to be enthralling.
DaCosta assumes both writing and directing duties for *Hedda*, a daring reinterpretation of Henrik Ibsen’s 1890 play *Hedda Gabler*. Thompson takes on the role of the eponymous character, a married socialite who appears to possess it all. Nevertheless, the reappearance of a former lover compels her to confront her past and present in a dramatically intense manner.
The film’s synopsis notes, “Across one electrifying night, long-buried longings and concealed tensions explode—drawing her and everyone nearby into a vortex of manipulation, desire, and treachery.”
A significant alteration in *Hedda* compared to *Hedda Gabler* is the gender reversal of Hedda’s past lover. In Ibsen’s work, Eilert Lövborg is a male character. In *Hedda*, Eileen Lövborg is female, played by Nina Hoss (*Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World*).
The teaser reveals evident chemistry between her and Thompson. The initial audiences to witness this romance will be at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) next month. Stay tuned to Mashable for reviews, reactions, and further coverage from the festival.
Following its debut at TIFF, *Hedda* will hit select theaters on Oct. 22 and will be accessible globally on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
