On Monday, residents of Nevada faced difficulties in renewing driver’s licenses, acquiring marriage certificates, or engaging in any governmental transactions due to a “significant degradation of the state network impacting normal operations,” as stated by the state attorney general’s office.
Following a “network security incident” first identified early Sunday, Nevada suspended all in-person services at state offices on Monday, according to a press release from Gov. Joe Lombardo. Although in-person services were disrupted, emergency services and 911 continued to function.
As of 3 p.m. PT on Monday, the websites for the governor, the state attorney general, and the state Department of Motor Vehicles remained inaccessible.
It is still uncertain if the network problems were intentional, but the FBI is currently investigating, as reported by CNN.
Gov. Lombardo’s office cautioned Nevadans to be wary of potential scams during the service interruption, specifically advising against unsolicited calls, emails, or texts that request personal information or payments. The office also highlighted that there is no current evidence suggesting a breach of Nevadans’ personal information.
