What is Connections?
The NYT‘s newest daily word puzzle has turned into a social media phenomenon. The Times attributes the contributions of associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu in part for the creation of this new word game and its addition to the publication’s Games section. Connections is playable on both web browsers and mobile platforms, tasking players with sorting four words that share a commonality.

Every puzzle consists of 16 words, categorized into four different sets. These categories can range from book titles to software names or country identifiers. While multiple words may appear to align, only one combination is accurate.
When a player successfully pinpoints all four words within a set, those words are eliminated from the board. Guessing wrong counts as a misstep—participants can make up to four missteps before the game concludes.

Participants can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make it easier to identify connections. Additionally, each set is color-coded, with yellow representing the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, players can share their results on social media with friends.
