ExpressVPN has unveiled a new tiered pricing model, signifying a major shift in its 16-year journey. As of September 2, the VPN service offers three distinct subscription options with varying features, more simultaneous connections, and reduced long-term costs. In the past, ExpressVPN featured a single membership choice priced between $6.67 and $12.95 per month, based on subscription duration and promotions, positioning it among the more expensive premium VPN solutions.
The updated pricing is now more competitive with alternatives such as NordVPN and Surfshark, with three membership levels beginning at under $5 per month. ExpressVPN has raised the number of simultaneous connections from eight to at least 10 per subscription, enabling usage across additional devices.
“This signifies a crucial transformation in how ExpressVPN is delivered, based on the understanding that the internet and your privacy requirements have evolved,” the firm mentioned in a blog post.
The new plans are:
– **Basic Plan:** Use the VPN on up to 10 devices with a kill switch, tracker blocker, split tunneling on most platforms, and ExpressVPN’s Lightning protocol. Prices vary from $3.49 per month for 28 months to $12.99 monthly.
– **Advanced Plan:** Features an integrated ad blocker, password manager, and “Identity Defender” suite with fraud notifications, theft safeguards, and credit monitoring. For use on up to 12 devices. Prices commence at $4.49 per month for 28 months and can go up to $13.99 per month. Annual subscribers receive three days of limitless international mobile data via eSIM.
– **Pro Plan:** Offers all Advanced features along with a dedicated IP address, two additional Identity Defender tools (data deletion tool and monthly credit assessments), and up to 14 simultaneous connections. Prices range from $7.49 per month for 28 months to $19.99 monthly. Long-term subscribers are entitled to five days of unlimited international mobile data via eSIM.
Subscribers of the Advanced and Pro plans also receive discounts on ExpressVPN’s AirCove WiFi 6 routers, which come with the VPN pre-installed. All packages are protected by ExpressVPN’s no-logs policy and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Current subscriber plans will not change unless they opt to transition to the new tiers. “When it’s time for your renewal, you’ll have the choice to upgrade to Basic, Advanced, or Pro,” the company stated. “However, you won’t lose the features you currently depend on, and you won’t be downgraded without your agreement.”
ExpressVPN has not rolled out new features with this update, but rather redistributed existing ones. The dedicated IP is now included in the plans rather than being a separate purchase. These attributes will not improve the VPN itself but can enhance overall online security. “All of our plans are founded on the same principles: speed, privacy, and trust,” ExpressVPN mentioned. “Now you have the option to determine how much further beyond a VPN you wish to venture.”
Established in 2009, ExpressVPN is among the pioneers in the industry, operating servers in 105 nations and providing applications for numerous platforms. Recently, it released its latest transparency report detailing responses to legal inquiries this year.
