A few months ago, a leak provided an official look at the Lenovo Legion 2, forecasting a September launch. The leak turned out to be accurate, as Lenovo has now officially introduced the Legion Go 2 at IFA 2025 in Berlin this September.
This new Windows-based portable gaming console is noteworthy, showcasing enhancements such as an upgraded battery and a new OLED screen. Nevertheless, it carries a $400 increase in price compared to the original.
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 is currently open for pre-orders but will not reach consumers until October 31.
The Legion Go 2 retains the general shape and aesthetics of its predecessor, including the detachable Hall Effect joysticks. These joysticks are removed along a concealed rail after pressing a button, which, while not as graceful as the magnetic controllers of the Nintendo Switch 2, is still appreciated.
Internally, the Legion Go 2 offers two variations of specifications. The first comes with an AMD Ryzen Z2, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB PCIe SSD for $1,099. This can be upgraded to the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme with 32GB of RAM and a 2TB PCIe SSD for $1,349. This marks a notable enhancement over the first generation, which featured the Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip. However, the prices are significantly higher than the previous model, which debuted at $700 in 2023.
While $1,099 is high for a handheld, it’s challenging to compare it with competitors. The eagerly anticipated ROG Xbox Ally handheld is set to launch on October 16, with its price yet to be revealed.
The new OLED screen is the standout enhancement. The Lenovo gaming handheld showcases a remarkable 8.8-inch OLED display featuring a 144Hz variable refresh rate (up to 240Hz) and HDR TrueBlack 1000 for deep blacks and enhanced HDR colors. On the downside, Lenovo has lowered the resolution from 2,560 x 1,600 pixels to 1,920 x 1,200.
The boost in battery capacity is also attractive. The previous generation had a 49.2 WHr battery, providing one to two hours of gaming at maximum power. Lenovo has outfitted the Legion Go 2 with a 74 WHr battery, nearly doubling the capacity of its predecessor. While battery life confirmation will come with reviews, a Lenovo press release claims a 50 percent increase in battery longevity.
As for ports, the device is equipped with a headphone jack, two USB ports, and a microSD card reader for additional storage. The handheld includes three complimentary months of Xbox’s PC Game Pass.
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 is available for pre-order on Lenovo’s website and at online retailers like Best Buy. The release date is scheduled for October 31, a few weeks after the ROG Xbox Ally.
