Apple is on the verge of launching new iPhones, which also indicates the upcoming release of a new iOS version. With the significant iPhone 17 event set for next week, many are keen to discover when they can delve into the new iOS 26 features. Fortunately, forecasting the iOS 26 release date is simple, and it’s coming up very soon.
The most reliable estimate for the iOS 26 release date is September 16. Apple typically launches the newest iPhone operating system between the yearly iPhone announcement and the phone’s release, generally about a week after the event. Last year’s event occurred on September 9, and iOS 18 was made available on September 16.
Messages will receive a revamped look with Liquid Glass and iOS 26. Liquid Glass and iOS 26 also roll out new customization options for the iPhone.

Even if Apple shifts the release by a day or two, you can still plan for that week for the iOS 26 and Liquid Glass debut. Apple intends to have the new version available on as many devices as possible, including the new iPhones at launch. iOS 26 is compatible with every iPhone from the iPhone 11 onward, including the second-generation iPhone SE. Older models will not receive support.
If you’re not current, iOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, and iPadOS 26 present a new “Liquid Glass” design, giving UI components a glass-like look. This major update includes redesigns of the Photos and Phone applications and new features such as group chat backgrounds and polls in Messages.
You can access a public beta for iOS 26 now, but exercise caution as it could carry risks on your main device. Apple has recently released the ninth beta for iOS 26, which mainly includes minor bug fixes.
We’re nearly there. The wait is almost finished.
