How to Turn Off Autoplay Videos on X

X (previously Twitter) often features videos when you launch the app or access the website. If the news of the day is distressing or violent, you might stumble upon content that you would rather not see automatically playing.

The most effective method to steer clear of distressing social media content is to refrain from using the apps, but if you choose to access X on a day with negative news, you can modify a setting to prevent videos from autoplaying in your feed.

How to disable video autoplay on X

Estimated Time

  • 1 minute
Requirements

  • X on a computer or mobile device

Step 1: Go to “Settings and privacy”

This option is found under “More” when using a desktop.

Step 2: Go to “Accessibility, display and languages”

Step 3: Click/tap on “Data Usage”

Step 4: Click/tap “Autoplay”, then choose “Never”

This action will prevent all videos from autoplaying while using X.

Be aware that disabling autoplay will not eliminate videos from X completely, and you may still come across unsettling images while navigating the app.
