Stephen Colbert Responds Strongly to Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension

“I’m your host Stephen Colbert, but tonight we are all Jimmy Kimmel.” That’s how Stephen Colbert commenced The Late Show on Thursday night, following the announcement that Jimmy Kimmel’s program has been indefinitely halted.

“That is outright censorship,” Colbert states in the clip. “And it always begins small. You know, think back to the first week of his presidency, Gulf of America. ‘Call it Gulf of America.’ Sure, it seems innocuous. But with an autocrat, you cannot give an inch. And if ABC believes that this will appease the regime, they are tragically naive. And evidently, they’ve never read the children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Kimmel.”

“To Jimmy, let me express, I support you and your team 100 percent,” Colbert continues, before reaching off-camera to retrieve his recently awarded Emmy. “And also, couldn’t you let me savor this for just one week?”
