What is Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game has debuted in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times outlet for sports information. Players can engage with Connections on both web browsers and mobile devices, tasked with grouping four words that share a similarity.

Each puzzle features 16 words, segmented into four categories. These groups can range from book titles to names of software or countries. Even though many words might appear to fit together, only one correct grouping is available.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words will be cleared from the board. Incorrect guesses are treated as errors—players are allowed to make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players may rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate the discovery of connections. Each group is color-coded, with yellow as the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, results can be shared on social media.
