Meta has rolled out two new functionalities for Facebook Dating: Meet Cute and an AI dating assistant. Meet Cute injects an element of surprise by pairing users with a random individual using Meta’s algorithm, enabling them to chat or unmatch. Users will receive a weekly Meet Cute match, with the ability to opt-out at any time.
The AI dating assistant is a messaging feature within Facebook Dating that offers tailored guidance throughout the dating process. It assists in discovering better matches and permits users to indicate distinctive characteristics they desire, beyond typical traits like height and education. It also provides suggestions for dating and profile enhancement. The assistant can be found in the matches tab and will be available in the U.S. and Canada.
These features are designed to tackle “swipe fatigue,” a term that refers to the discontent associated with online dating. While various dating apps are incorporating AI features too, many daters show a preference for in-person meetings.
Historically, Meta employed AI to help users find partners, including the AI dating coach Carter, which was later discontinued amid criticism. Despite previous controversies, Meta persists with its AI developments, having recently introduced its “AI glasses.”
