Google and Qualcomm Leaders Validate Android for PC: “I’ve Witnessed It, It’s Amazing”

For over ten years, Android has been recognized as a mobile operating system, but this could shift in the upcoming times. In a discussion at a Qualcomm event between Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon and Google’s head of platforms and devices Rick Osterloh (as reported by The Verge), they indicated that Android for PC is imminent. The conversation can be viewed in the video, beginning at approximately 53 minutes.

“Historically, we have maintained distinctly different systems for our PC and smartphone developments, but we have initiated a project to integrate these,” Osterloh expressed. “We are collaboratively establishing a unified technical foundation for our products across PCs and desktop computing platforms.”

Osterloh also noted that Google intends to extend all its Android AI capabilities and applications to the PC ecosystem. Amon replied that he has already witnessed Android for PC and characterized the new experimental Android operating system as “amazing.” While they did not share further specifics regarding its launch, it appears that Android laptops are forthcoming. This is encouraging news for fans of Android mobile devices, as the seamless integration between iPhones and MacBooks provides a notable edge within the Apple ecosystem.

This advancement isn’t completely surprising. In 2024, Android Authority reported that Google was working on this initiative, and Google itself affirmed intentions to amalgamate ChromeOS and Android earlier this year. Although the precise timeline remains uncertain, the ongoing conversations indicate that it could occur soon.
