Taylor Swift’s forthcoming studio album The Life of a Showgirl likely wasn’t the inspiration for Apple’s new Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro, despite many Swifties speculating. However, it did motivate a new case for these devices.
The well-known mobile accessories company OtterBox has introduced a new limited-edition phone case named the Encore, a $60 addition to its sleek Symmetry Series featuring a unique glittery orange design. Its name and product descriptions don’t specifically mention Swift or TLOAS, but the subtle hints are vividly apparent (quite literally).
“Symmetry Series Clear Encore marks a fresh chapter in case aesthetics, taking center stage with dazzling sparkles and vibrant energy,” states its description on OtterBox’s website. The first bullet point on its features list proclaims it as “the case of the year to pair with the album of the year.”
For further context, the internet has been flooded with tangerine hues since Swift announced TLOAS in mid-August. The Cruel Summer singer, 35, assigns a different color palette to each of her album eras — a strategy that serves as both a tone-setter and a clever marketing tactic, experts informed Billboard. Bright orange has been designated for her Showgirl era, and its primary vinyl variant is pressed in Portofino Orange Glitter.
Even more tellingly, a promotional image showcases the Encore alongside glittery showgirl-relevant accessories and two of Taylor’s signature elements: friendship bracelet beads, a lyrical nod that transformed into an Eras Tour custom; and (ding ding ding!) a tube of red lipstick. A promotional video for the new cases also features music resembling “Shake it Off.” The only way the Encore case could be more reminiscent of Swift is if people attempted to resell it for exorbitant prices.
As an OtterBox Symmetry Series case, the Encore includes a scratch-resistant polycarbonate shell with elevated edges that safeguard the phone’s screen and camera from drops. It’s not as robust as the brand’s Commuter, Sole, and Defender Series cases, but it’s somewhat sturdier than its basic Profile styles. It includes built-in magnets to facilitate wireless charging and compatible accessories (like MagSafe grips, stands, and wallets).
The Encore is priced at $59.99 and upwards for preorder exclusively on OtterBox’s website, where a 25% discount is available for customers who bundle it with a screen protector or power accessory. It is available for the new iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 16, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 15, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. (Models for the iPhone 16e, iPhone 15, iPhone 14, and iPhone 13 are on the way soon.) All available variants were expected to ship on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the time of this writing.
The Life of a Showgirl itself is set to release on Friday, Oct. 3, and can be preordered through Target or Swift’s online store.
