What is Connections Sports Edition?
The NYT‘s latest daily word game is introduced in collaboration with The Athletic, the New York Times’ sports journalism outlet. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile platforms, requiring players to categorize four words with a shared association.

Each challenge features 16 words split into four groups. These categories can range from book titles to software or countries. Even if multiple words appear to fit together, only one correct grouping exists.
When a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the board. An incorrect guess is counted as a mistake—players are permitted up to four errors before the game concludes.

Players have the option to rearrange and shuffle the board for easier connection spotting. Each cluster is color-coded, with yellow being the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, outcomes can be shared on social media.
