Jimmy Kimmel’s reappearance on television this past Tuesday was eagerly awaited, and the online feedback regarding his monologue indicates it surpassed expectations.
The late-night host’s opening monologue has set a record on his YouTube channel, becoming the most viewed YouTube monologue he has ever produced, less than a day post-release. As of now, the video is nearing 20 million views. Kimmel’s former highest-watched monologue, which is an eight-year-old segment where he emotionally reflects on his son’s heart surgery, has accumulated 14 million views.
Kimmel’s program was halted last week due to remarks he made regarding the far-right’s reaction to Charlie Kirk’s murder. His monologue faced backlash from Trump-appointed FCC chair Brendan Carr, who threatened Kimmel’s network ABC during a podcast. Subsequently, Nexstar, which operates several ABC affiliates and is seeking Trump administration sanction for an upcoming merger, opted to remove Kimmel from its broadcasts. Disney-owned ABC then revealed an “indefinite suspension” of Kimmel’s show—a choice reversed at the beginning of this week due to pressure from celebrities and customers canceling their Disney+ subscriptions in protest.
Kimmel’s comeback has angered Trump, who voiced his anger on Truth Social and issued a warning to ABC. Nevertheless, judging by Kimmel’s reaction to that warning, the host doesn’t appear to intend to cease his jokes about the president anytime soon.
If your local station is still not airing Kimmel, here’s how you can view his show.
