A day following Amazon’s launch of new products, Google has countered with a variety of Nest smart home devices, as both firms vie for dominance in AI-enhanced living.
These offerings comprise an indoor Nest Cam ($100), an outdoor Nest Cam ($150), a Nest Doorbell ($180), and a Google Home Speaker ($99). The camera devices are currently available, while the speaker is anticipated to launch in spring 2026.
The revamped cameras boast several upgrades: improved 2K video quality (up from 1080p), HDR recording, and wider fields of view. The Nest Cam now provides a 152-degree angle, and the new Nest Doorbell stretches to a 166-degree diagonal view.
The event’s centerpiece was Gemini for Home, which supersedes Google Assistant across the company’s smart devices. The Google Home app has been overhauled with fresh tabs for Home, Activity, and Automations. A significant feature is “Ask Home,” depicted as a “natural command center” to facilitate more conversational device management.
Gemini Live will be implemented on all speakers and displays, though most new features will necessitate a subscription. Google Home Advanced costs $20 per month (or $200 annually) for complete access to Gemini for Home capabilities.
A more economical $10-per-month option offers a 30-day event history, smart alerts, and Gemini Live, but does not encompass the advanced Gemini for Home functions.
