Apple is lagging behind its rivals in the AI domain. Firms such as Google and Microsoft have already embedded AI into numerous products, whereas Apple has struggled to provide its AI features to users, resulting in lawsuits related to misleading advertising. Apple’s attempts to progress in AI are facing substantial hurdles. Recently, another Apple AI executive has been hired by Meta, the parent organization of Facebook and Instagram.
As reported by Bloomberg, Ke Yang, Apple’s newly installed head of Answers, Knowledge and Information (AKI), is departing for Meta shortly after receiving his promotion. The AKI team is working on Apple’s forthcoming AI search product, which includes an AI enhancement for Siri, enabling real-time searches of web information.
Yang’s elevation came after the exit of Robby Walker, the prior senior director of AKI, who left Apple the previous month. Walker’s future endeavors remain uncertain, but many ex-Apple AI executives, including Yang, have transitioned to Meta.
9to5Mac highlights that former Apple Lead AI Researcher for Robotics, Jian Zhang, the previous head of AI models, Ruoming Pang, and the AI head for cloud infrastructure, Frank Chu, have all recently joined Meta. Apple anticipates that its next AI features and Siri upgrade will assist in narrowing the gap in the AI competition, or further departures may occur.
