Weapons, Zach Cregger’s sequel to the 2022 cult horror phenomenon Barbarian, stands out as one of the year’s major horror triumphs. This enthusiasm is understandable, as the script alone generated significant buzz leading to a multi-million-dollar bidding frenzy in Hollywood.
Cregger not only penned the script, but also took on the roles of director, producer, and co-composer. Starring in this summer’s wild horror sensation are Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, along with Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan.
If you missed the film in theaters or are eager to see it again, Weapons now has an official streaming date. Here’s everything you need to know to watch it — including where and when.
What is Weapons about?
Weapons narrates the tale of a community grappling with a crisis as nearly an entire class of children mysteriously disappears simultaneously on one night. The narrative weaves through various non-linear perspectives, including Justine (Julia Garner), the teacher of the missing kids, and Archer (Josh Brolin), the father of one of the vanished children.
What or who is responsible for their unsettling vanishing into darkness? It’s advisable that this be all that you know before diving into the film. As Mashable’s movie reviewer Belen Edwards notes, “The best way to prepare for its thrills is to simply not prepare at all.”

Is Weapons worth viewing?
Strong audience reactions prompted Warner Bros. to advance the release date for Weapons from January 2026 to August 2025, and the decision proved fruitful. As one of the top horror success stories this year, the film, which had a budget of $38 million, has so far amassed $251M globally. However, box office numbers only reveal part of the picture. Reviews contribute the rest.
With a 93 percent critic score and 85 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it can be confidently stated that Weapons is worth seeing. Even Stephen King endorsed it, describing it as “confidently told and very scary.”
Mashable’s own critic states, “The last thing I want to do is hype a film excessively, but just believe me when I say: You are not prepared for Weapons.”
