What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge, in collaboration with The Athletic, invites players to categorize four words that share a commonality. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile platforms.

Every puzzle features 16 words segmented into four classifications. While numerous words may appear to align, there is only a single correct grouping.

If a player successfully categorizes all four words, they disappear from the grid. An incorrect selection counts as a mistake — players have a maximum of four errors before the game concludes.

Players can rearrange and shuffle the grid to identify connections more effectively. Each group is color-coded: yellow is the most straightforward, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you can share your achievements on social media.
