The vibrant Home Depot Skeleton fanbase is merely the latest, tangible evidence of a theory I’ve held for years: Halloween decorations (and overall Halloween nostalgia, really) serve as a temporary but potent remedy for the genuine real-life terrors that surround us.
While the thrill of Halloween in childhood is a sentiment we’ll pursue for eternity, the fortunate aspect of being an adult during Halloween is having the financial means to purchase amazing decorations. You know, the kind that encourages people to slow down just to gaze for a moment.

If your current bland string light arrangement leaves you uninspired, I searched the web to uncover the top high-tech Halloween decorations to elevate your decor in 2025. For those with a yard, there are some uniquely striking inflatables and towering animatronics available — but even residents of apartments can embrace creativity with some atmospheric RGB curtain lights and genuinely eerie projector displays.
And, of course, we must discuss Skelly. The notorious 12-foot skeleton from The Home Depot continues to be a longstanding favorite at Mashable, and this year it’s indeed feasible to find him in stock—though you might have to visit your local outlet.
Skelly alternatives: other chilling animatronics at least 12 feet tall
Briefly, Home Depot’s postponed Halfway to Halloween sale caused concern for my colleague (and Home Depot Skeleton expert) Haley Henschel that tariffs might be impacting Skelly stock, along with other essentials in the Halloween market. But rest easy: As of mid-October 2025, the cherished Skelly with LifeEyes is readily available for its usual price of $299, along with Skelly’s Cat and Skelly’s Dog that Home Depot introduced this year.
For those already part of the Skelly community, there are additional enormous animatronics available to enhance your yard display. Both Lowe’s and Home Depot offer alternative 12-foot options, but the true standout is Home Depot’s new 15-foot Gally-Crow. Originally released alongside a Worricrow that’s currently out of stock, the Gally-Crow is arguably more intimidating (imagine a scarecrow wearing a plague doctor mask) and is currently 50% off. Yes, people are already incorporating it into their indoor decor.
– Lowe’s 12-foot Immortal Nightwalker Motion-Activated Animatronic — $359.20 (save $89.90)
– Lowe’s 12-foot Lighted Talking Bone Collector Motion-Activated Animatronic — $449
– Home Depot 15-foot Grave & Bones Animated LED Gally-Crow — $199 (save $200)
Complete outdoor lighting scenes
Outdated: orange string lights on the porch. Innovative: themed complete scene LED displays on your windows, garage, or shrubbery.
Instead of the distracting black cords that make traditional Halloween lights cumbersome to hide, Govee’s RGB curtain lights and net lights feature hundreds of color-shifting LEDs connected by nearly invisible wires arranged in a grid. Both styles of lights are waterproof and app-controlled—allowing you to access a plethora of pre-designed patterns for Halloween, alongside other holidays and everyday enchantment.
Acquire a set of Govee outdoor curtain lights for $199.98 (ideal for walls and large, flat surfaces measuring 5.41 x 5.77 feet) or a set of Govee outdoor net lights for $99.99 on sale (perfect for bushes and fences, measuring 2.8 x 9.4 feet).
Not your mother’s colossal lit inflatables
Halloween inflatables for the yard aren’t a completely new concept. But amidst the large Snoopys and Minions dressed as mummies decorating your neighborhood, I present a giant alien abduction.
