Why Meaningless Lists Rule Your FYP

Lists frequently achieve viral status, signifying a unique phase of the internet. Lately, a peculiar new kind of list has risen to fame on TikTok. These lists can most accurately be termed as nonsensical. Typically, the outline is as follows:

– An unidentified account with a random username shares a snippet from a TV series, film, or similar content.
– Throughout the clip, often lasting over a minute, a numbered list is disclosed one item at a time.
– The language in the list is absurd, at best loosely connected to the clip, primarily consisting of random words or phrases that are gradually unveiled.

These videos have permeated FYPs, at times achieving millions of views.

If you’re not fully focused, such a TikTok might appear ordinary. But how do terms like “compromise” or “question” relate to a scene from *This Is Us*? These videos are omnipresent, attracting interaction with phrases like, “1) going 2) no 3) have.”

People are beginning to observe this bizarre phenomenon. In the comments, you’ll notice inquiries like, “What’s up with the numbered words?” or “What exactly are we ranking here?”

We’re ranking nothing. The words hold no significance. Humanity is simple. We enjoy lists, rankings, and discovering how narratives conclude, even when they lack coherence. These nonsensical lists capture your focus. It’s a minimal-effort engagement strategy, and it succeeds, even if it seems absurd.

If the clip doesn’t catch your interest, perhaps the unrelated list will. It also serves as a technique to alter a video that isn’t the creator’s, potentially evading detection by platforms.

Would it be surprising if these list-clip projects were partially generated by AI? Certainly not. It’s 2025, and chaos routinely clutters your FYP in some manner. The newest iteration just happens to be incoherent lists.
