If the statement “Hey everyone, Mr. Taylor here” brings to mind Kevin James from the ’90s television show The King of Queens, you’re not the only one. You may be curious about what’s going on.
Recently, Matt Taylor, who goes by @thisismatttaylor, posted a TikTok video sharing his passion for being an art instructor. While that’s common for an art instructor, Taylor bears an uncanny similarity to James, raising the question: Is Kevin James disguising himself as an art teacher named Matt Taylor on TikTok?
One viewer of the video envisioned a scenario where Kevin James has a hidden role teaching children, leaving parents bewildered at meetings since their kids never mentioned their instructor looks like Kevin James.
Another viewer characterized the situation as a witty prank. Taylor has uploaded five videos, each garnering between 700,000 and 2.4 million views. Neither Taylor nor James’s agents responded to Mashable’s inquiry for a statement, but three theories are circulating online:
1. Matt Taylor is merely Kevin James’ doppelgänger, and they are separate people.
2. Kevin James is executing a stunt akin to KJ Apa’s viral TikTok character, Mr. Fantasy.
3. This is a marketing campaign for Kevin James’ forthcoming film.
The first theory strikes me as improbable, given my knowledge of The King of Queens and my sharp vision. The second theory is feasible, considering KJ Apa’s TikTok escapades. The third theory seems the most plausible, considering the effort put into the videos, which feature a classroom environment, an art supply room, and a painting time-lapse. Taylor only follows Ed Sheeran but boasts nearly 115,000 followers, and James has an upcoming film, Playdate, set to release.
In the end, as one creator remarked, “I don’t mind if he’s Kevin James, I enjoy Matt Taylor’s energy!”
