What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word puzzle is unveiled in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times section dedicated to sports coverage. Connections can be accessed on browsers and mobile devices, tasking players with organizing four words connected by a common thread.

Each puzzle consists of 16 words classified into four groups. These categories can range from book titles to software or country names. While several words may appear to align, there is only one correct grouping.

If a player successfully categorizes all four words, they are eliminated from the board. An incorrect guess is counted as a mistake — players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are free to rearrange and shuffle the board to identify connections more effectively. Each group is color-coded, starting with yellow as the simplest, and followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, results can be shared with friends on social media.
