Nintendo has unveiled a mobile platform for Switch titles. The Nintendo Store application made its debut unexpectedly on Tuesday evening and is now accessible on both iOS and Android devices. True to its name, it serves as a specialized mobile application for exploring and buying games for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 systems. Users are able to sign into their Nintendo account, keep a wishlist, check out promotions, and more. This move brings Nintendo in line with PlayStation and Xbox, both of which have offered mobile apps with digital storefronts for several years.
Interestingly, when buying a game, users are directed to the Nintendo store website via an integrated browser, instead of having a dedicated purchase page within the app. Although Nintendo has not previously allowed purchases through an app, customers have been able to acquire games from the website using a mobile browser for years. This app enhances the experience by removing the necessity to launch Safari.
A significant feature of the app is an extensive record of your gameplay history on recent Nintendo consoles. By signing into your Nintendo account, you can check the total hours you’ve dedicated to any game and see the length of individual gameplay sessions on specific days. For example, I found out that I had a four-hour session of Xenoblade Chronicles X earlier this year. This is valuable information.
Hopefully, the new Nintendo Store application will bring additional features in the future, including genuine in-app purchases.
