The adult site Pornhub is now inaccessible in 22 U.S. states.

This restriction is a result of age-verification laws. These regulations differ by state but typically require users of a site with over a third of adult content to provide a government ID or another form of age verification. Louisiana was the first to pass such legislation a few years ago, and now other states have followed. In June, the Supreme Court ruled that Texas’s age-verification law is constitutional, establishing a precedent for similar legislation.

An initial study suggests that age verification may not effectively prevent minors from accessing porn sites. This is attributed to technologies like VPNs that enable users to disguise their locations, as well as non-compliant websites. (The Florida attorney general is currently suing foreign pornography websites for failing to implement age verification.) Nevertheless, these laws continue to be enacted — and are also affecting non-adult websites, experts informed Mashable.

While Pornhub remains accessible in Louisiana, it is restricted in the following states, as confirmed by a Pornhub representative to Mashable:
