Tiny Vinyl: Small LPs That Truly Function on Turntables

If you’re in your thirties, you likely recall HitClips — those compact, cassette-like gadgets that played brief excerpts of popular tracks by artists such as Britney Spears, *NSYNC, and Avril Lavigne. You could attach them to your jeans and flaunt your collection between classes.

Introducing Tiny Vinyl: miniature records that, while just four inches in size, are fully functional and can be played on standard 33rpm turntables (although they may not be compatible with auto-stop or auto-return turntables). These tiny LPs provide four minutes of audio on each side, sufficient for a single on each face (in contrast to HitClips, which offered only portions of a song).

The new Target-exclusive series boasts holiday-themed Tiny Vinyls like “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and Frank Sinatra’s “Jingle Bells / Silent Night.”

Tiny Vinyls can be acquired online and at locations chosen by artists for sales. Target has also introduced a special “Target-exclusive” line featuring artists such as Chappell Roan (offering “Pink Pony Club” on one side), Ariana Grande, Rihanna, The Rolling Stones, Mötley Crüe, and others. These exclusive items are solely available at Target.

Each Tiny Vinyl features a distinct “TV number” on its packaging, signifying its print run, which could render it a future collectible. These compact LPs are designed to be more environmentally friendly, weighing 15 grams each (in contrast to a conventional LP’s 140g) and constructed from 100 percent bio-attributed vinyl.
