WhatsApp Unveils Cross-App Messaging with a Twist

You may soon have the ability to utilize WhatsApp for messaging users on different platforms, but there is a notable drawback. Android Police (through WABetaInfo) has disclosed that WhatsApp is in the beta phase of testing compatibility with third-party messaging applications, which will ultimately be restricted to certain regions. This shift is motivated by the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which enforces stricter rules on technology firms operating within Europe. This legislation has previously led to significant penalties for Apple and Meta. At present, WhatsApp’s cross-platform messaging is confined to BirdyChat, but it might eventually permit users in Europe to message anyone through WhatsApp. For others, this functionality is not yet accessible.
