The fifth and concluding season of *Stranger Things* is nearly upon us, with trailers and featurettes presenting a concerning insight into the destiny that lies ahead for the town of Hawkins.
Now, Netflix is offering you the initial five minutes — which ties all the way back to Season 1.
We’re revisiting Castle Byers, where a young Will (Noah Schnapp) was drawn into the Upside Down during *Stranger Things*’ inaugural season. He’s concealing himself in his homemade fort from the terrifying Demogorgon, softly singing The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” (the song that rescued him), before he faces an attack, valiantly fights back against the Demogorgon, and is then taken into none other than Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) domain in the Creel House. There, he suffers Vecna’s soul-draining fury — a fate from which he was rescued by his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) in the first season.
However, from the tingling feeling at the back of our necks (and the trailer), we sense that the story is not over.
From the snippets we’ve seen so far, it seems likely that we’ll return to the series’ current timeline afterwards, to fall 1987, a year following the Season 4 finale, where Hawkins has been devastated by the rifts from the Upside Down. WE’RE NOT PREPARED (but we definitely are).
Volume 1 of *Stranger Things* Season 5 debuts on Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. ET on Netflix. Volume 2 launches on Dec. 26, and the series finale is set for Dec. 31.
