Pete Davidson, a past member of the Saturday Night Live cast, joined Colin Jost and Michael Che at the Weekend Update desk to briefly discuss his recent cancellation and then continued making jokes about SNL, Lorne Michaels, and the show’s hosts.
Davidson and other comedians, including Louis C.K. and Dave Chappelle, have faced backlash for their performances at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia. Analysts indicate that the event is a tactical effort to enhance the nation’s image despite its troubling human rights history. Davidson’s rationale for taking part was to support the expensive Staten Island Ferry.
Disregarding public apprehensions, Davidson also shared thoughts on other NYC news, including Staten Island’s reaction to Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani and the future of SNL, stating, “If Lorne Michaels has imparted any lesson, it’s to never, ever give up — even if everyone claims the time has arrived and Tina Fey is set to take over.”
