What exactly is Connections: Sports Edition?
The NYT‘s newest daily word game has debuted in partnership with The Athletic, the sports coverage property of the New York Times. Connections is playable on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to group four words that share a commonality.

Every puzzle comprises 16 words, divided into four categories. These categories could encompass anything from book titles, software, to country names, etc. Although several words may appear to fit collectively, only one correct answer exists.
If a player successfully identifies all four words in a group, those words are eliminated from the board. If incorrect, it counts as a mistake — players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players can rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate the identification of connections. Each group is color-coded, with yellow representing the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, users can share their results with friends on social media.
