Matthew McConaughey and various other celebrities are adopting AI technology. As per a report by Variety, McConaughey has partnered with the AI audio firm ElevenLabs to create a Spanish-language audio version of his newsletter titled “Lyrics of Livin’.” Through ElevenLabs’ technology, his voice will be replicated, enabling him to generate content without needing to know Spanish. McConaughey, who has previously worked with ElevenLabs, is now an investor in the organization. He conveyed his appreciation for ElevenLabs’ skill in converting fundamental technology into offerings for creators and narrators. His newsletter seeks to disseminate stories and concepts, and the Spanish edition will assist in reaching a wider audience.
ElevenLabs has also introduced the Iconic Voice Marketplace, allowing third parties to seek permission to utilize AI-cloned voices of well-known personalities. Michael Caine is among those replicating their voices for this marketplace, which features the voices of Judy Garland, John Wayne, Liza Minnelli, Laurence Olivier, Maya Angelou, Babe Ruth, and historical figures such as Thomas Edison and Mark Twain. At present, 28 celebrity voices are accessible, although McConaughey’s voice is not part of them.
The entertainment sector, including Hollywood and SAG, has encountered difficulties with the emergence of AI. Studios are promoting AI to lower expenses, while artists and fans criticize its application. Zelda Williams recently denounced AI representations of her father, Robin Williams, without permission. ElevenLabs’ marketplace mandates complete consent from artists or their families for AI utilization, reflecting an awareness of these issues. The involvement of actors like Michael Caine indicates that some consider adaptation essential to retain control over their voices in the changing industry landscape.
