Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are both pursuing prestigious films this season, with Sweeney taking the lead in the boxing biopic “Christy” and Seyfried headlining the religious musical “The Testament of Ann Lee.” However, Paul Feig, celebrated for helming “A Simple Favor” and “Another Simple Favor,” has cast these two stars in an unexpectedly thrilling project.
“The Housemaid” is adapted from Freida McFadden’s internationally acclaimed novel. Readers of the book might spot familiar themes in the second trailer, which features moments of screams, blood, and an emotionally supportive sandwich.
Sweeney plays Millie, the titular housemaid brought in to assist Nina Winchester, the character portrayed by Seyfried, who is both a wife and mother. The trailer suggests a strained working dynamic between the two.
As per the official plot synopsis:
“But what starts as a dream opportunity quickly devolves into something much more perilous — a tantalizing, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the closed doors of the Winchesters lies a world filled with shocking revelations that will keep you guessing until the very conclusion.”
“The Housemaid” premieres solely in theaters on Dec. 19.
