Karen Oren, the co-founder of the wedding stationery brand The Ceremony Club, integrates ChatGPT in various facets of her wedding planning. “At times, I seek advice from ChatGPT,” shared Oren, who is planning to tie the knot next year. Although she has a human wedding planner, she relies on the LLM, particularly during the late hours. “During those nighttime chats at 10 p.m., browsing Instagram for ideas, I leverage ChatGPT alongside that inspiration,” she explained to Mashable. For example, she inputs the wedding dresses she loves and her budget, prompting ChatGPT to locate nearby shops.
“I really make it work for me,” she quipped.
Oren is not the only one. Since the debut of ChatGPT, many individuals have utilized it in their relationships—to compose flirty texts, resolve disputes, and now to organize weddings. On platforms like Reddit and Instagram, couples disclose how they are utilizing ChatGPT along with other AI resources for their wedding setups.
From wedding tips to graphics, “There are countless blogs, Reddit threads, and websites for advice, and having a streamlined version of what you’re searching for, complete with links to various pages for precisely what you need, is great,” remarked Alessandra, a bride who wed last month. She employed Gemini search and the image creator Midjourney, in tandem with Canva, to design her cocktail menus. She detailed specific elements such as three espresso beans on an espresso martini and a Tajín rim on a margarita presented in a hand-drawn style. With a paid Midjourney subscription from her job, she chose to utilize the available tools rather than hire someone on Etsy or create it herself.
Rachel, the owner of the hand-drawn stationery Etsy shop PipiPrintables, shared with Mashable that while AI is beneficial, it cannot replicate true artistic skill. “It can attempt to imitate, but it lacks the same genuine look and feel,” she stated. Cost is a significant consideration, and some individuals are inclined to sacrifice the visual appeal of authentic hand-drawn art. “I believe, like many things, there’s a role and market for both.”
Illustrator and graphic designer Sasa Khalisa affirmed this viewpoint. AI can support couples who are short on budget and time, she noted. However, couples prioritizing wedding aesthetics might shy away from AI-generated images due to their often generic or flawed nature, referred to as “AI slop.”
Khalisa has observed changes in her business since the rise of AI, which includes a greater availability of pre-made templates. She has expanded her offerings by selling digital graphic assets in addition to custom invitations and portraits.
The creation of tangible memories in the AI era is also affected. Wedding photographer and planner Lynea D’Aprix stated to Mashable that she believes AI will heighten competition but lead to “better businesses effectively supporting couples.” AI can minimize tedious tasks and save costs, but it also has downsides, including a tendency for formulaic output. “AI is beneficial, but it remains somewhat outdated regarding wedding information, particularly, and is generic,” she remarked. “If couples choose to use AI, I advise them to verify their work with a professional. Ultimately, AI is merely a tool.”
Opinions among couples regarding AI usage are mixed. Some are enthusiastic, while others are apprehensive. “I’ve noticed that couples who are receptive to it are already using it in their professional lives,” she noted, “so it feels natural for them to apply it to their personal lives as well.”
This holds true for both Alessandra and Oren. Oren and her sister Leore, who is also a co-founder of The Ceremony Club, apply ChatGPT in their business as well. Leore referred to it as their third and fourth team member. “We constantly have a lot on our plates, so it really helps us keep things progressing,” she told Mashable. “We are a small team, so it truly assists us.” They employ it for tasks including resource allocation, development, and photo editing.
The Ceremony Club offers physical memorabilia, such as photo albums and keepsake boxes. Even though the sisters utilize ChatGPT in both their professional and personal realms, they recognize the trend of young adults moving away from technology. “We’ve actually noticed that people seem tired of their phones and technology,” Karen said. “So it’s refreshing to have an option that doesn’t require staring at a screen.”
“A significant inspiration for [wedding photo albums] was rekindling a nostalgic item we all had at home, which was our parents’ photo albums,” Leore shared. “There are certain aspects that new technology simply cannot rival.”
