What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge, introduced alongside The Athletic, tasks players with grouping four words that have something in common. Connections can be enjoyed on web browsers and mobile devices alike.

Each puzzle contains 16 words, divided into four categories. These groupings could range from book titles to names of countries. Even if numerous words appear to align, only one answer is correct.

If a participant successfully identifies all four words in a group, those words are eliminated from the board. Guess incorrectly, and it registers as a mistake — players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players can reorganize and shuffle the board to facilitate recognizing connections. Each grouping is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similarly to Wordle, you can share your results with friends on social platforms.
