AT&T clients impacted by data breaches in 2019 and/or 2024 can still submit a claim in the $177 million class action settlement. The cutoff date for claims has been pushed to Dec. 18.
The initial breach was found in March 2024, uncovering customer information on the dark web. AT&T mentioned in a statement that addresses, social security numbers, and passcodes from a 2019 database were violated. A more extensive breach in late 2024 disclosed phone numbers and communication records of nearly all AT&T customers, which took place between May 1 and Oct. 31, 2022, and on Jan. 3, 2023.
5 major tech settlements you may qualify for in 2025
In the aftermath of a class action lawsuit, courts decided in June that AT&T would disburse $177 million to impacted clients with accounts from 2019 to 2024. Claimants were categorized into two groups: those affected by the March 2024 breach would divide $149 million, while those impacted by the July event would share $28 million. Direct compensation for financial damages was prioritized, allowing up to $5,000 for the first group or $2,500 for the second.
Currently, the remaining funds are being allocated to all individuals exposed.
What is the total amount available in the AT&T settlement?
AT&T customers with verified financial losses from both events could obtain as much as $7,500, but larger disbursements were made beforehand. If you have not received any communication but think you were affected, check your spam inbox for messages from Kroll Settlement Administration LLC or [email protected], as indicated by PCMag.
Generally, final payouts in significant tech settlements are less than $30.
