Donald Trump gave a primetime speech from the White House on Thursday evening, attributing the current situation of the U.S. economy to immigrants and Joe Biden while assuring an ‘economic boom’ by 2026, despite his dwindling approval ratings, all amid a backdrop of Christmas trees. Stephen Colbert, much like Jimmy Kimmel, dissected the event.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think that in years to come, we’ll all recall where we were when we chose not to tune into Donald Trump’s speech last night,” remarked The Late Show host on Thursday. “Yesterday, Old Man Baloney Hands somehow managed to persuade every network to interrupt their primetime schedules to broadcast a presidential address from the White House…I’m uncertain what the urgent situation was, aside from his poll numbers, because he just recycled the familiar themes.”
Colbert showcased a segment from Trump’s address in which he stated: “This is what the Biden administration has permitted to transpire in our country, and it must never happen again. We had men competing in women’s sports, transgender policies for everyone, crime at unprecedented levels with law enforcement, and phrases such as that completely banned.”
“Indeed, phrases such as ‘that’ were off-limits,” quipped Colbert. “Under Biden, you couldn’t say ‘that.’ You were required to say ‘this but over there.’ But under Donald Trump, we’re finally saying ‘Merry Thatmas’ once more.”
