Last night’s episode of SNL signified Bowen Yang’s final appearance as a member of the cast. He revealed his exit on Instagram just a day earlier, after a teaser was released featuring him, host Ariana Grande, and musical guest Cher.
Yang’s concluding sketch depicted him as an employee at the Delta One Lounge, serving eggnog to passengers during his last shift.
“I’m going to miss everything about this place. The scent. Celebrities would pass through. Just last week, Josh O’Connor was here,” he mentioned, referencing the actor and the previous week’s host.
He gets a phone call from an older-looking Ariana Grande, who shares her pride in his achievements over the years, even when the eggnog had gone bad. Yang and Grande then perform “Please Come Home for Christmas,” with Grande eventually joining him in the lounge.
“I just feel so fortunate that I ever got to work here,” Yang expressed, clearly not speaking about the Delta One Lounge. “And I just wanted to savor it for a little while longer. Especially the people. I’ve cherished every single person who works here because they’ve done so much for me, especially my boss.”
However, within the sketch, Yang wasn’t referring to Lorne Michaels but Cher, who appears as the “CEO of Eggnog at Delta.” The trio wraps up the song and sketch with a heartfelt farewell to Yang.
